How AB Tutors will work
We are not taking bookings yet. Here is exactly what will happen once we open, from creating an account to the lesson and what follows it.

Step by step
Five steps. The first takes a few minutes and is free; you pay only when you book a lesson.
-
Create a free account
Register as a parent or guardian, or as an adult booking for yourself, and confirm your email address. If the lessons are for a child, add their first name and grade. That is all we ask about them, and they do not get a login.
-
Find a tutor
Search by subject and grade, and narrow it by the day you want and the price you want to pay. Each tutor’s page shows their background, what they teach, their hourly rate and their open times. You can message a tutor before you book.
-
Book a time and pay for that lesson
Open times are shown in your own time zone. Choose one, choose a lesson of 30, 60 or 90 minutes, say who it is for, and pay. The time is held for you for 10 minutes while you pay. Lessons can be booked up to 12 hours before they start.
-
Join the lesson
On the day, sign in, open the lesson page and choose Join lesson. It opens 10 minutes before the start and takes you to the tutor’s online meeting room. With a younger child, stay in the room for the lesson.
-
Afterwards
Book the next lesson with the same tutor, try a different one, or stop. You can leave a review of the lesson. If something went wrong, report it from the lesson page within 48 hours and our team will look at it.
What booking looks like
Each tutor’s open times appear in a week like this one, already converted to your time zone. Pick a time, choose how long, say who the lesson is for and pay. It is yours.

If plans change
Children get ill and practices run late. You can move or cancel a lesson yourself from the lesson page, and the refund follows these rules without anyone having to approve it.
| If this happens | You get back |
|---|---|
| You cancel 24 hours or more before the lesson | All of it |
| You cancel less than 24 hours before | 50% |
| The tutor cancels | All of it |
| The tutor does not turn up | All of it |
| You move the lesson, up to 24 hours before | Nothing to refund: the lesson keeps its payment |
What you need for a lesson
A device with a camera
A computer or tablet with a working camera and microphone. A phone screen is too small for most schoolwork.
Ten minutes of set-up
Test the camera and sound before the first lesson, and join a few minutes early.
The schoolwork
This week’s homework, the last test and the textbook or the name of the online program the class uses.
A grown-up nearby
In the room for a young child; within reach at the start and end for an older one.
Four rules we do not bend
We are new, so we will not quote you numbers we do not have. These are the rules the whole service is built on.
- Taught by certified teachers
- Every tutor will be an American Board certified teacher. We check the certification before a profile is listed.
- Reviewed before they are listed
- Our team reads each tutor’s background and profile and approves it before families can find it.
- One lesson at a time
- No package to buy and no subscription to cancel. Book the next lesson only if the last one helped.
- A parent holds the account
- You choose the tutor, book the time, pay and message the tutor. Children do not get a login of their own.
What parents ask first
More answers, including for teachers, are on the questions page.
Who are the tutors?
Every tutor is an American Board certified teacher. Our team reviews each tutor’s background and profile and approves it before families can find it.
How much does a lesson cost?
Each tutor sets an hourly rate, shown on their profile and in search. The price of a lesson is that rate for the length you choose, and you see it before you pay.
What if we need to cancel?
Cancel 24 hours or more before the lesson and you get all of your money back. Cancel later than that and you get 50% back. If the tutor cancels or does not turn up, you are refunded in full.
Does my child need an account?
No. A parent or guardian holds the account, adds the child’s first name and grade, and books and pays. Children do not have logins. Adults can also book lessons for themselves.
Where do lessons happen?
Online, by video, in the tutor’s own meeting room. On the day, open the lesson page and choose Join lesson. It opens 10 minutes before the start.
