Math tutoring from a certified teacher

From counting and place value to algebra, geometry and calculus. One-to-one and online, one lesson at a time, when AB Tutors opens.

Math builds on itself. A child who never got comfortable with fractions meets them again in ratios, again in algebra and again in every science class after that. When a gap opens, the class usually cannot stop for it.

A one-to-one lesson can. A tutor finds the step that did not land, goes back to it, and works forward from there at your child’s pace, using the homework and tests your child is actually bringing home.

When a math tutor helps

  • Homework that used to take twenty minutes now takes the whole evening
  • Test scores have dropped since a particular unit started
  • Your child can follow a worked example but cannot start a new problem alone
  • “I’m just not a math person” has become the standard answer
  • Class is moving too slowly and your child wants to look ahead

What a lesson looks like

A math lesson usually starts with what is due this week. The tutor watches your child work a problem, sees where the reasoning slips, and goes back to that step. Bring the current homework, the last test and the textbook or online course name.

Every tutor will be an American Board certified teacher whose profile our team has reviewed. Lessons are booked and paid for one at a time, and if you cancel 24 hours or more before a lesson you get all of your money back.

Questions about math tutoring

Will the tutor follow my child’s school curriculum?

Tell the tutor which course or textbook the school uses when you book. Tutors work from the homework and tests your child brings, so lessons stay tied to what the class is doing.

My child is more than a year behind. Where does a tutor start?

At the earliest step that is shaky, not at the current chapter. Share recent tests or report cards before the first lesson so the tutor can see where the trouble begins.

Can a tutor help with test preparation?

A tutor can review the math a test covers and work practice problems with your child. Ask the tutor in a message, before you book, whether they are familiar with the specific test.
